A camera for a house that has no internet

Half of this area is houses used three months a year with no line contracted at all. With no internet in the house, the camera from the supermarket is useless: it needs a wifi network that is not there. A 4G camera carries its own connection inside, on a SIM card, and talks to your phone wherever you are.

First things first: this is not an alarm

An alarm with a contract has a monitoring centre that watches, calls and sends someone. This does not. This is a camera that alerts YOU and shows you what is happening, and then you decide. It costs once instead of thirty or forty euros every month, and it does not tie you to a multi year contract. But if what you want is somebody reacting on your behalf at four in the morning, what you need is an alarm, and we will say so.

What it takes for this to work

It takes one thing: some operator's mobile signal reaching your plot, even a weak one. That is exactly the work we already do. If the signal is weak, the antenna we fit for coverage serves the camera too. If nothing at all reaches the plot, no 4G camera will work, and we know that before selling you anything.

Power is the other question. If there is a socket nearby, it plugs in. If there is not, there are cameras with a solar panel and a battery, which is the usual answer for a gate or a fence away from the house. Both are just as quick to fit.

Where a camera may look, and where it may not

This is not a detail: it is the part that causes the most trouble and that almost nobody explains. Your camera may record YOUR property. It may not record the street, the pavement, the communal pool, or the neighbour's plot, not even at the edge of the frame. If the angle catches any of that, it has to be masked out or the camera has to be turned.

And a visible sign warning that there is a camera is required, at the entrance. We put it up on installation day, and we leave you a written note of where each camera points. If a neighbour ever asks, that piece of paper is the answer.

A camera pointing at the public road or at the house next door is unlawful in Spain, even if it is yours and even if it is on your own wall. That is not our recommendation, it is data protection law. We would rather tell you before fitting it than afterwards.

What it costs, fitted and explained

390 € for one camera, SIM and installation included.
590 € for two cameras and a door sensor, all fitted.
12 € a month: the SIM data and the monthly check that it is still alive.
No tie in. If you stop paying the 12 €, the camera is still yours.

Installation takes two hours: fitting, aiming, putting the SIM in, setting it up on YOUR phone and checking with you that you can see the picture. If you live abroad, we set it up and show you over a video call before we leave.

Why we charge for a monthly check

Because a camera that is off is worse than no camera: it gives you a reassurance that is not real. A battery that runs down, a SIM out of data or a three day power cut leaves it mute and nobody notices until it matters. Once a month we check that the cameras answer and that the SIM has data, and if something has failed we are the ones who write to you.

What this camera does not promise you

It does not stop anyone getting in. It does not call the police. It does not guarantee emergency calls, just like none of our installations do: for emergency numbers, a phone with street coverage remains the safe option. What it does is show you your house when you are two thousand kilometres away, and for most people that is exactly what was missing.

Questions about this

Does it work if the house has neither power nor internet?

With no internet, yes: the camera carries its own SIM. With no power, you need the model with a solar panel and battery. We look at that on the visit and tell you which one is yours.

Can I watch it from England or from Norway?

Yes. The picture travels over the internet, so you see it from any country in the phone app, with the same account we set up for you.

What if the camera accidentally records the street?

That part of the picture is masked in the camera itself, or the angle is changed. We leave it done on installation day and in writing.

How much data does it use per month?

Little, because it only sends video when it detects movement. An empty house uses very little; a house with a garden and cats uses more. The 12 € covers normal use in a closed up home.
