Controlling your air conditioning from your phone, wherever you are
Arriving in August to a house at 35 °C, or in January to one at 12 °C, is avoided by switching the AC on two hours earlier from the airport. So is keeping the house at 12 to 14 °C in winter without overspending. There are two ways to do it.
Option 1: the maker's wifi module
The big brands sell a module that plugs into the indoor unit and controls it through the official app, with all its functions. Two examples with a price:
| Brand | Module | Price with VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Daikin | BRP069C47 | 65.73 € |
| Mitsubishi Electric | MAC-597IF-E (replaces the MAC-567IF-E) | 76.94 € |
Before buying, check on the maker's website that your exact split model is compatible: the number is on the sticker on the indoor unit.
Option 2: a universal infrared controller
If your unit has no module, or is old, a universal controller imitates the remote control by infrared. It goes on the wall facing the split. Example: tado Smart AC Control V3+, 103 € in store in September 2026. Its limit: it does not know whether the unit actually obeyed, only that it sent the command.
What it saves, and what it does not
Remote control mainly saves what was wasted by forgetting: a unit left running in an empty house. IDAE estimates that each degree of difference in the set point means around 7 % of consumption; setting 26 °C instead of 23 °C in summer shows on the bill.
All this needs the house to have internet when you arrive and while you are away. If it does not, see «Internet in a holiday home».
Where the figures come from
Prices checked in September 2026. They change: take them as an order of magnitude and always ask for the final price in writing.
